Miss Universe Contestant Removed for Being Transgender?

UPDATE:  As of 4/8/2012 Ms. Talackova WILL be allowed to compete in the Miss Universe contest this year.  Donald Trump the owner of the international contest, has said that transgendered individuals will be allowed to compete from now on. But we would still love to know your thoughts!  Please comment!

Jenna Talackova, a 23 year-old beauty queen, has been disqualified from the Miss Universe Canada competition after it emerged that she was not in fact born as a female. In a move that’s been reacted to angrily by human rights protestors, the rules of the competition deem that entrants must be “naturally born,” and thus according to them, Talackova has broken that ruling. What do you think?  Should she be allowed to participate?  Or is it a legal matter and not one of gender at all?

  1. Well, I am glad that since the decision to deny Ms. Talackova based on her transgendered status was issued, that there was some sort of review and now she and other transgendered women will be able to compete.

More and more it is becoming evident to me–in ways it never had before–that difference has been exploited and perverted exclusively for the subjugation of so many people. I am heartened to see that little by little the arrogation of difference by some to oppress and marginalize others is decaying–if only we could hasten its decay, I think we as the human race would be so much better for it.

  2. The problem with people today is that they think that anything they do is OK but it is not. If you want to be treated equally…be honest about who or what you are. To me Talackova will always be a male. Rather you believe in GOD or not, being naturally born a male or female is what yu are. If you decide to change your gender, that is your right but be honest about it…I would not hate you but if you tell me you are a woman and tries to have sexual intimacy…( I must had mispelled) with me…it becomes a bigger problem that the law will be invovled. Should Talackova compete again…yes as long as honesty plays a part.
